Composting

A Tailored Solution for Organic Waste

Organic waste from agro-food industries, markets, restaurants, and green spaces represents a significant portion of overall waste. When poorly managed, it can cause nuisances such as odors, insect proliferation, and leachate production.

CEGEDI implements a controlled composting process that allows us to:

  • Stabilize organic matter
  • Eliminate pathogens
  • Produce a safe and fertile final product

Composting at CEGEDI

Composting is carried out in dedicated areas on CEGEDI sites. The process follows several steps:

  1. Sorting and preparing organic waste (excluding plastics and non-biodegradable materials)
  2. Shredding and mixing with structural materials (dry leaves, wood chips)
  3. Aerobic fermentation in windrows or bins, with regular turning
  4. Maturation to stabilize the compost and improve its quality
  5. Sieving and packaging of the finished product

Throughout the process, temperature, humidity, and aeration are monitored to ensure high-quality compost that meets agricultural standards.

A Natural Fertilizer for Agriculture

The compost produced by CEGEDI is a nutrient-rich organic amendment (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), ideal for:

  • Enriching agricultural soils
  • Reducing the use of chemical fertilizers
  • Improving soil water retention
  • Stimulating crop growth

This compost can be made available to agricultural cooperatives, local communities, and environmental projects, contributing to the promotion of sustainable agriculture in Guinea.

A Positive Environmental Impact

Composting not only reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills but also helps limit greenhouse gas emissions, particularly methane. It provides a clean, local, and economical alternative to the disposal of organic waste.
