Sorting and storage are key stages in sustainable waste management. At CEGEDI, these operations are designed to separate waste by type, hazard level, and recovery potential, while ensuring safe storage before treatment or shipment.
Modern and Specialized Infrastructure
CEGEDI operates two major sites for sorting and storage
- A 3-hectare private landfill in Maferinyah (Forécariah Prefecture) for receiving, sorting, and storing various types of solid waste.
- A 4-hectare site dedicated to used oil management in Tanènè (Dubréka Prefecture), equipped for handling and storing liquid waste, particularly hydrocarbons.
These facilities are secure, monitored, and built to regulatory standards to prevent pollution or accidents.
Rigorous Selective Sorting
Upon arrival, waste is classified according to its nature:
- Recyclable waste (plastic, metal, paper, cardboard)
- Hazardous waste (chemicals, solvents, batteries)
- Organic waste
- Non-recyclable waste
This sorting maximizes recovery, reduces landfill disposal, and directs waste to the appropriate treatment channels (processing, export, composting, etc.).
Safe and Compliant Storage
Waste is temporarily stored in designated and isolated areas. Each type of waste is placed in suitable containers, bins, or tanks to ensure:
- Leak-proof containment
- Prevention of emissions and spills
- Safety for staff and surrounding communities
Sites are regularly inspected to check material stability, and emergency procedures are in place in case of incidents.
A Strategic Step for the Circular Economy
By implementing efficient sorting and structured storage, CEGEDI actively contributes to reducing landfill use, conserving natural resources, and promoting the reuse or transformation of waste.
